There’s been a big hubbub over George Clooney’s return to “ER” as Dr. Doug Ross, the role that propelled him to stardom before he left the show ten years ago. Clooney will reunite with Julianna Margulies in an episode scheduled to air March 12th.
[The storyline] also features Susan Sarandon, making her ER debut as a grandmother grief-stricken over the sudden death of her grandson.
Really? Susan Sarandon can’t get better work than “ER”? Did she owe someone a favor?
The episode brings Clooney’s character back to his longtime love Margulies’ nurse Carol Hathaway. Will the star-crossed pair finally get their happy ending? [John] Wells, who wrote the series’ final episodes, would say only, “I want their story to be very fulfilling in the end.”
In a related story, wow, “ER” is still on? I remember when it debuted 15 years ago, head-to-head against “Chicago Hope.” “Chicago Hope” was a way better show, but “ER” had prettier people and was created by Michael Crichton at the height of Jurassic Park fame. I’m actually still kinda pissed about that. Not that “ER” beat “Chicago Hope,” but that DNA preserved in amber never led to a world where dinosaurs showed up and started kicking ass and eating people.
