Lena Dunham Is Very Self-Aware In The Teaser For The Final Season Of ‘Girls’

Love it or hate it, Girls is coming to an end. Following a stellar season five — easily the best since the show’s firstLena Dunham and crew will be moving on from this particular slice of Brooklyn. And from the looks of things, they might even be growing the slightest bit of self-awareness. The cracks are beginning to show as the central friendships between Hannah (Dunham), Marnie (Allison Williams), Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) are super strained after season five. Unsurprisingly, Hannah is still mad that Jessa is dating her ex, Adam (Adam Driver). With a simple “I don’t think we ever acted like friends,” Hannah is nipping that toxic relationship in the bud.

One of the most common complaints about the show is the self-centered portrayal of millennials, but from the looks of things, Dunham is willing to look at those accusations and a face them pretty head on. Comforting a weeping Marnie, Hannah posits “It can be pretty hard to have observations about other people when you’re only thinking about yourself… I would know.”

Unfortunately, it looks like the Star Wars/Girls crossover that Adam Driver was hoping for will remain firmly in the realm of fanfiction.

Girls season 6 starts February 12 on HBO.
