Let’s Liveblog Monday’s Geeky TV: ‘Gotham’ Returns, More Over-The-Top Than Ever

Gotham decides to rock the ’90s tonight, by bringing back Azrael, of all characters. But this is a very different Azrael from the one people who read Batman comics in the ’90s would remember.

A quick recap for people who don’t remember who Azrael is: Back in the ’90s, Batman got his spine broken. There was need for a new Batman, so Azrael, formerly a brainwashed cult member with a voluminous cape and a totally bitchin’ flaming sword, became Batman, complete with some very ’90s armor. The wrist-guns fired Batarangs. It was edgy.

So, yeah, that’s coming back, but this time the guy in the armor is Theo Galavan, the big bad from the opening part of the season who got shot in the face by Jim Gordon. Theo still holds a grudge against everybody who screwed up his plan to get revenge on Bruce Wayne for something that happened back in the 1800s and clearly has zero effect on Galavan, who was rich and successful before he came to Gotham. So, yet again, a bunch of GCPD officers are going to get killed. They must have an excellent life insurance policy. We’ll find out just who gets stabbed tonight at 8pm EST on Fox. Join us, won’t you?
