‘Gotham’ Gives Fans An Eyeful Of The New, Mature Version Of Poison Ivy

As had been previously reported, the creatives behind Gotham were looking to give Poison Ivy a makeover on the show. It’s not the first time the show has done some wild, illogical things with their characters, but the idea here is to take the orphan child Ivy Pepper and mature her a bit. The result is a far different Ivy that seems to be taking the character in a different direction for season three.

Maggie Geha has been cast as the new Ivy, replacing Claire Foley and taking the character to a place that seems to be playing up the seductress aspect of the character. Now the reasons behind the change are linked to a more practical reason, as noted in the earlier report. Seeing as Poison Ivy has been bumped up to a regular on the series, the need for an older actress likely became apparent due to the rules related to working with child actors. Having someone a bit older gives more flexibility.

Ivy is certainly not the most shocking news coming for season three, with the return of Cameron Monaghan teased at the close of season two. He’s not exactly the Joker, but his return would mark another character being resurrected despite a very obvious death earlier in the show. Ben McKenzie noted at Wizard World New Orleans that no death is ever final:

“Not only can we [bring Jerome back] but we might. I can’t say definitively but yes. I’ll put it this way: almost nobody that you’ve seen go away is dead. They are all able to come back.”

It’s almost like the show is just a showcase for every Bat-villain, no matter what the continuity circumstances of it all. So it’s basically exactly like the comics.
