Here’s What’s New To HBO NOW In February, Including The Series Premiere Of ‘Vinyl’

There’s a lot of beefcake coming to HBO NOW in February, with two of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s biggest features to date, and a double dose of Magic Mike hitting the streaming service. The first thing you should do, though, is catch The Drop before it disappears on the 29th — it’s one of the best films of 2014, and one of James Gandolfini’s last performances. Other highlights include the season premieres of Girls, VICE, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Alright, enough yapping. Here’s what you should be watching on HBO NOW in the month of February.

Vinyl: Season 1 Premiere (2/14)

The last time that Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter touched an original HBO program, we got the supremely satisfying Boardwalk Empire. Scorsese and Winter are adding their flavor to the ’70s rock scene in this series that weaves sex, drugs, and of course, violence into a TV tapestry that is sure to be one of the “can’t-miss” shows of 2016. Bobby Cannavale was one of the best villains in recent memory during his run on Boardwalk Empire, and he scored an Emmy for his efforts — expect more fine acting from him.

San Andreas (2/27)

What do you get when you force a Rock to go up against an earthquake? Lots and lots of money. The big-budget disaster flick, San Andreas, helped push Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson into billion dollar territory for 2015, making him the top international box-office draw for that year. This film is exactly what you’d expect: tons of explosions and heroics from The Rock. Watch it with a helmet on.

Furious 7 (original and extended cuts) (2/13)

It’s the swan song for Paul Walker the actor and character in the Fast & Furious series of films, but it’s also one of the more enjoyable, high-octane flicks from last year. The Furious films keep getting bigger with each outing, but it’s also managed to do something that few long-running franchises can boast: get better.
