As somebody from the Northeast with relatives and friends in the Southeast, I get a lot of crap about the weather every winter, crap I gladly return by making fun of the fact that they live in states that can’t figure out why maybe a drive-through liquor store is just inherently a bad idea.

I seriously thought, at first, this clip was a cleverly staged joke by a local comedian. It just plays so perfectly into every single stereotype of the South when it comes to winter at once. There was no way, no freaking way, this could be real.

But it is. Muriel Bailey is an actual news reporter. She actually did this…

… and is stunned that, just because it’s below freezing outside, water turned to ice! Allow me to sum up my reaction:

She hyped this! She hyped putting water outside, and watching it freeze! Furthermore, it gets damn cold down there in winter. Ice may be somewhat rare, but definitely not unheard of.

I’m not sure what this was trying to prove. Unless this really is just an elaborate fake, and they’re trying to make those of us still shoveling out feel better. Even if that’s not the truth, Muriel, that’s the story I’d go with.
