Netflix Has Acquired The Season One Rights To ABC’s ‘How To Get Away With Murder’

The competition between the two big streaming services is not over yet, as it looks like ABC’s highest rated new series, How To Get Away With Murder, is now fully streamable on Netflix. According to Variety, Netflix secured the worldwide rights to the first season of the Shonda Rhimes series and every episode is now viewable — in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America — on the platform with “all other territories where Netflix is available” to come in the near future.

Currently, the last four episodes of season one are still viewable on Hulu, but this will change very soon, as the season two premiere of the series will hit ABC on September 24th. For those looking to catch up before HTGAWM returns for more, now is your chance. But don’t take my word for it…

“We’re excited to offer global audiences season one of ‘How To Get Away With Murder,’ offering members a chance to discover it for the first time or relive the drama of season one before the new season’s premiere,” said Sean Carey, VP of global TV at Netflix.

The concept of binging the entire first season of HTGAWM may drive further traffic to the series when it returns this upcoming Thursday to ABC. It’s worth noting that these season 2 episodes will continue to be available to watch on Hulu — consider those pesky copyright laws, people — after their original airdate.

This may be a sign of things to come as Netflix signed a huge deal with parent company Disney which will bring — if this error is any indication — popular properties by LucasFilm and Pixar to the platform very soon. With Marvel and Netflix already pretty cozy together, it’s probably just a matter of time before more ABC programs hit the service for your binge-watching enjoyment.
