You Better Believe Ian McShane Is Ready For A Foul-Mouthed Return In ‘Deadwood’

Deadwood, the dearly departed HBO western that heads the list of show’s the cable giant cut the cord on too soon, may wind up springing back to life in the form of a movie. Series creator David Milch has been working on a script and ex-HBO president Michael Lombardo confirmed the return back in January.

There’s a minor problem here, though. Lombardo no longer works at HBO. That might explain why there’s been no green light on the project or why no one from the original cast has signed a deal to reprise his or her role.

One cast member who is down to get back to the dusty thoroughfare is none other than the crass, crotchety Al Swearengen himself, Ian McShane. The British actor, as memorable and authentic as anyone on the show in its three years on the air, told EW that the show was “snatched away rather unjustly.”

“Of course I’d love to reprise that. How could one not, when it was snatched away rather unjustly by a combination of forces we’ll never know about – hubris or money or whatever. But [Deadwood] certainly finished too early. At the time, most of us working on the show were incredulous. It’s been announced by HBO so its not like I’m saying it. I know for a fact David is working on the script. It’s been 10 years since it finished.”

McShane has been plenty busy since Deadwood went off the air on both the big and small screens. He’s definitely in the good graces of HBO given his role in Sunday night’s episode of Game of Thrones. Maybe his remarks will get the execs over there thinking they want to hear more from him. Especially if he’s cursing a lot.
