John Krasinski Reveals The Exact Moment He Realized He Wasn’t Going To Be Captain America On ‘Conan’

There was a time not too long ago when John Krasinski was auditioning for the part of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pictures of adorable Jim from The Office swirled the internet as everyone wondered what kind of Steve Rogers he might be. He probably would have made a good one too. I mean, look at him in this appearance on Conan! He loves imagination! He giggles like he could guest star in an episode of Dragon Tales! Alas, his Captain America-ing wasn’t meant to be and the part eventually went to Chris Evans, he of the equally adorable origins in random movies like The Perfect Score.

Now for the – probably? – first time Krasinski reveals exactly why he didn’t end up getting to pick up the shield and defend New York City from all the evil that comes its way. During the audition process, John was half in the Cap costume (which is a mental picture that merits pause all on its own) when Chris Hemsworth walked by. The level of Hemsworth ab action apparently so thoroughly shamed Krasinski that he realized he might not fit in with this particular cast. (All together now: awwwwww.) We can only imagine what his chances would be if Marvel didn’t start its master universe until after Michael Bay filmed his Benghazi movie. Benghazi abs might still not live up to Hemsworth abs, but they would at least be able to put up a fight.

He probably could have spilled a bit more about the Marvel audition process too if he wasn’t so paranoid about them taking him out for revealing a few too many secrets. Those blow dart jokes are only funny when there’s a bit of truth to them, so watch your back out there Krasinski.
