Last night’s Daily Show featured another “Can’t you at least wait until Jon Stewart gets back” segment that saw fill-in host John Oliver lose a little slice of his sanity over ridiculously early media hype about the 2016 presidential election. Oliver especially took issue with MSNBC hot air balloon extraordinaire Chris Matthews, who is already convinced that the GOP nomination will go to loopy Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul.
In a Hardball clip played by Oliver, Matthews boasts, “I predict the hard right is going to take over the Republican Party in 2016 and the nomination is going to Rand Paul. You watch. This is what I do for a living.”
Too bad for Matthews, the Daily Show has a staff that is much better at what they do for a living — which is to dig up clips of people like Matthews being impossibly wrong about everything — than he is at what he does for a living.
