Thirty minutes prior to Stephen Colbert paying heartfelt tribute to David Letterman as opposed to announcing his new gig Jon Stewart touched on the big news (he had probably been aware of as long as anyone else) without having to sidestep the self-congratulation.

Re-living a hilarious archived The Daily Show bit where Stewart and Colbert had absolutely zero chance not to break, Mr. Stewart segued into gracious words about his mentor — and final Jon Stewart Show guest — and high praise for his colleague and friend.

On David Letterman:

“The comedian broadcaster who is the best there ever was.”

On Stephen Colbert:

“There is no greater joy than seeing a genuinely good man work as hard as he can every day and deserves all success in the world actually get that success.”

I never thought I’d type this, but thank god for Rush Limbaugh, because if it wasn’t for him all the class going around would start to get super boring.
