Kermit and Miss Piggy may have called it quits this summer (thanks a lot, Denise), but this is the internet, and ‘shippers don’t go down without a fight.
Videos of various Muppets lip-synching to popular songs have a long and illustrious history online, and this one definitely sets a new standard. Set to the tune of Bryan Adams “You Belong to Me,” Kermit waxes poetic about his love for his porcine lady, as clips from happier times flash before viewers’ eyes. Sometimes the forced lip-dubs don’t quite sync up properly, but Kermit seems perfectly acquitted to channel Adams. These edits usually lean pretty hard on Beaker’s rendition of “Feelings,” so it’s nice to be reminded of how wonderful “Rainbow Connection” is, as well.
Whether you prefer your Muppets, er, loving humans or each other, there is no denying the fact that Kermit and Piggy’s relationship is and was iconic. Whether the current show on ABC will keep them apart or bring them back together again, it’s safe to say that they have a secure spot in pop culture history as one of the greats. For now, we’ll just have to sit back and let the awkwardness take center stage.
