A Kindergartner’s Letter To Santa Took A Wrong Turn And Ended Up A Great Story

Even the strangest coincidences have the ability to make the holidays actually seem like they have a little magic to them. Example: A Chula Vista kindergarten teacher let her class of 23 students write letters to Santa Claus before they tied them to balloons and sent them floating off into the sky on Tuesday morning. One of the students, a 5-year old named Joie, had a little trouble getting her balloon to launch, though, and they had to take a little piece off the corner of her letter to Santa to get it to fly.

That’s probably why Terry Hardin saw Joie’s balloon floating at him later that night as he was leaving work in downtown San Diego, and he grabbed it to read the note.

“Dear Santa, I would like to have a mermaid doll with a bow for Christmas. Thank you, Love Joie.”

Hardin took to Facebook and somehow tracked the note back to Mrs. Garay’s class at St. Rose of Lima School, and he went ahead and bought a mermaid doll to give to Joie for Christmas. Why would he go to all that trouble? Joie is his mother’s name, and she passed away last year.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to find out who filled my stockings with all these chopped onions.
