‘Krypton’ Leaks A Whole Bunch Of Characters

Admittedly, the pitch for Krypton, which boils down to “space opera starring Superman’s grandpa,” was going to be strange no matter what. But as the pilot casts and moves forward, we’re getting a sense of just how much fun they’re going to have with the planet of Superman’s birth.

According to TV Line, it appears that our hero, Seg-El, will be continuing the work of his grandpa Val-El. Yes, Superman’s great-great-grandpa is also a character. He made his scientific bones exploring the Phantom Zone, which will likely be a plot point, and Seg’s dad, Ter-El, is in the mix. On a side note, how much time was spent ensuring names like Turt-El didn’t accidentally wind up in the script?

The other big news is that the House of Zod plays a rather large role. Lyta Zod, a “reluctant warrior,” is a main character, and her mother, Alura Zod, will also figure in. Alura, by the way, shares a name with Supergirl’s mother, which is interesting. And finally — as it wouldn’t be a DC series without a deep, deep cut, even by these standards — there’s Dev-Em, who turned up in Man of Steel and was a minor antagonist in the Superboy comics before joining the Legion of Superheroes in the 30th century.

So it sounds like a romantic tragedy with spaceships and stuff blowing up. Hopefully they just go full Silver Age and have cities in bottles and all the other weirdness. Really, if you’re going to go full DC nerd on TV, go all the way.
