Leonardo DiCaprio Explains That Awkward Golden Globes Moment That Everyone Is Talking About

Plenty happened during last night’s Golden Globes ceremony to get people buzzing, but easily the most talked-about moment happened after Lady Gaga’s win for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. As Mother Monster imperiously made her way towards the stage, she brushed passed fellow nominee (and eventual winner) Leo DiCaprio, who recoiled with hilarious horror. It was a beautiful moment, and a truly funny bit of television.

As can be expected, the moment went viral, with people on Twitter weighing in. The battle lines between #TeamLeo and #TeamGaga were drawn, but if DiCaprio is to be believed, the moment was completely innocuous. When asked about the moment by ET backstage, he gave a boringly ordinary reason for the moment:

“Oh lord — that’s trending, huh?”

“I just didn’t know what was passing me — that’s all!”

So, there you have it, folks. There is no blood feud at play here, just an ordinary, awkward shoulder brush between two famous people. Still, it’s way more fun to assume that that is just Leo’s gut reaction to any woman who isn’t a supermodel or Kate Winslet. Or maybe he’s just a Fargo fan.
