Liam Cunningham Thinks That Kit Harington Should Get Awards Recognition For ‘Battle Of The Bastards’

As the ninth (and always traumatic) episode of Game of Thrones looms large over the upcoming weekend, everyone is worried if their favorites will make it out of the episode alive. Spoiler alert: probably not! While nearly every episode of the current season has had their moments, it appears that “Battle of the Bastards” is going to take the bloody cake.

While he keeps things cryptic, Liam Cunningham, everyone’s favorite onion knight, sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to give them a taste of how big in scope this episode really will be. According to Cunningham:

Now, to work on what’s about to come up, it was absolutely extraordinary. HBO threw everything including the kitchen sink at it. It’s one of the most expensive episodes of television ever made. We spent roughly a month just doing this particular battle. It’s absolutely extraordinary, to be honest with you. The extras that we had were sensational. They’re probably the best gang we’ve had. We had hundreds of them. We had a huge amount of horses. Miguel had the luxury of spending a huge amount of time on this. What I’m saying is, having seen “Blackwater,” but not having seen “Battle of the Bastards” yet, I’m waiting with bated breath to see what they did with it.

Cunningham also only had the highest of praise for Kit Harington, one of the bastards in question. While Harington has continued to improve as an actor over the course of the series, Cunningham is certain that his work in “Battle Of The Bastards” is going to garner him some major awards attention.

I would be very, very surprised if Mr. Harington isn’t taking up a statue at the end of this. The amount of stuff I saw Kit doing out there… I think he’s blossomed from a young man into this fantastic character that he’s playing in this. I said it to him at the time, that his work is beautifully subtle on this. I’ve watched him from viewing him, and also working with him on this season, just blossoming as an actor… It’s going to be jaw-dropping.

It’s nice to know that Cunningham is as encouraging and generous to his fellow actors as Davos is to the Stark children. Now, if only he could have given us some assurance that he is going to survive the impending battle. They won’t kill Davos, right? Right?!
