Bill Maher And Sarah Silverman Explain Why The ‘Bernie Or Bust’ Crowd Shouldn’t Vote For Gary Johnson

Through all of the jokes about Trump’s comments about Alicia Machado, all the criticism of Trump’s surrogates, and a panel that seems like it wants to kill Trump’s economic advisor the entire time on Friday’s Real Time, Bill Maher put some time aside to take on Gary Johnson with Sarah Silverman. If anything is more confusing than Trump’s ascent to the top of the GOP heap, it is Gary Johnson’s campaign for president in 2016.

Maher is quick to call Johnson a “f*cking idiot” and he backs it up with Johnson’s own media appearances and “Aleppo moments,” while also bringing up Johnson’s campaign platform. Toss in Jill Stein and it’s clear to see why we’ve reached the point of frustration with this election.

The main crux for Maher here, alongside Silverman, is to highlight how Johnson has apparently become some choice for Bernie Sanders supporters in the current election. Silverman made her feelings about the ‘Bernie or Bust’ crowd pretty clear during her appearance at the Democratic National Convention, meshing with Maher’s message pretty well here. The host points out that Johnson opposes universal healthcare, free college, and gun control — punctuated by saying, “he’s for nothing that you f*cking people want!”

As Colbert put it on The Late Show, Johnson has become an ‘aging painted clown’ in this election and none of it seems to be related to his campaign choices. Maher tosses that in and finishes painting the picture. Not that he needed to considering what Johnson is doing on his own:
