Mariah Carey’s Hallmark Christmas Movie And Directorial Debut Now Has A Trailer

WiseGirls starlet and chanteuse of noted elusiveness Mariah Carey has a Christmas movie on the go for this holiday season and now we’ve been treated to a sneak peek of this upcoming offering.

A Christmas Melody boasts/threatens the directing talents of Mariah plus a showcase of her acting chops as well. What’s it about, you ask? We’ll let the Hallmark Channel’s tasteful press release do the heavy lifting:

“A Christmas Melody” revolves around Kristin (Lacey Chabert), a beautiful, stylish divorcee who is a talented clothing designer and her young daughter. Kristin has just had to close her small Manhattan boutique to return to her Ohio home town and live in her parents’ former home. It’s an adjustment for Kristin and Emily – especially when she runs into her former high school rival Melissa (Mariah Carey). Melissa is president of the PTA and tries to make Kristen feel as unwelcome as possible. Kristen and Emily struggle to find their new normal with the help of the music teacher Danny (Brennan Elliott) and Kristin’s Aunt Sarah (Kathy Najimy), the local coffee shop owner. With a little holiday magic and music, Kristin and Emily find that home is where the heart is.

We’ll give you a moment to ask, “Wait, isn’t Mariah like 12 years older than Lacey Chabert?” and then follow that up with a polite shrug. By extension, this might be Mariah’s way of suggesting she could have been in Mean Girls if she felt like it. She’d probably be sneaky awesome at Burn Book entries. Besides, who doesn’t like to flex a little directorial privilege when making a movie for cable?

The 30-second spot for A Christmas Melody doesn’t reveal too much, but it does feature “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which is nice. You can check out Mariah’s directorial debut in its full form on December 19 on Hallmark.
