Matt McGorry is an actor probably best known for portraying John Bennett on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black and Asher Millstone on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder. You may have also seen him on shows like Gossip Girl, Royal Pains, and Public Morals. Currently, he stars alongside Ashley Benson in Ratter, a voyeuristic thriller about a graduate student who falls prey to a stalker who hacks into her digital world. Ratter is available today, March 1, on DVD and on Digital.

Matt was nice enough to take a few minutes out of his busy schedule recently to answer a few questions from us.

1. You walk into a bar. What do you order from the bartender?

Vodka soda with lime if I’m trying to be “good.” Something really sugary (margarita, pina colada, etc.) if I’m following my heart’s desires.

2. Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter and/or Instagram?

For Twitter, it’s probably @Deray. He’s always promoting great content on issues relating to #BlackLivesMatter. On Instagram, it’s probably @RemodelFitnessNYC which belongs to one of my best friends, Jessi Kneeland. Her IG posts are more of blog posts, and she has an incredible body positive mindset in addition to being so transparent with her own vulnerabilities and weaknesses. I find it/her very inspiring. Also @babyanmls for super cute shit.

3. What’s currently waiting for you on your DVR?

I don’t have TV/cable service, but I’ve got the newest episode of The Walking Dead and I’m two episodes into season one of Transparent.

4. It’s your last meal — what are you going out with?

Ice cream, pecan and pumpkin pies and soft chocolate chip cookies. Fuck. I’m hungry now.

5. What websites do you visit on a regular basis?

I’m a bit boring now, but it’s mostly news sites that I get linked to through social media. The Guardian, The Atlantic, New York Magazine and The New York Times are probably most frequently visited for long-form content. Huffington Post, Jezebel, and The Onion are fantastic, as well.

6. What’s the most frequently played song on your mobile device?

There probably isn’t one because I literally only use Pandora. I actually own maybe three songs. But my Drake station probably gets the most love.

7. If you could go back and give your 18 year-old self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Life gets better with time. Insecurities will inevitably melt away and you’ll become your best self. And also, spend more time trying to help others rather than trying to crush your goals.

8. What’s the last thing you Googled?

“Domestic abuse male victims.” Was curious about the stats.

9. Dogs or cats?

Both when they’re young, but dogs probably win out for me as they get older.

10. Best concert of your life was…?

Maybe my first one…AC/DC in Madison Square Garden.

11. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?

The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander. In fact, I did give it to a few friends this year and my brother just finished reading it. It’s about how the War on Drugs and mass incarceration is essentially “The New Jim Crow.”

12. What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

My parents; raising me the way they did.

13. South Park or Family Guy?

I don’t really watch many animated shows unless I’m at a friend’s house. In either case, I’m happy as a clam to watch either.

14. You have an entire day to do whatever you want. What would you do?

Does this assume that I won’t get further behind on work if I take the day off? If so, a hike with one of my best friends involving long conversations about feelings, a therapy session, reading at home, watching two hours of TV, a nice long nap, and going out dancing with my besties. Although frankly that’s probably too busy of a day for my ideal sweet spot.

15. What movie can you not resist watching if it’s on?

When I had cable service, Tommy Boy.

16. The sports team or teams you’re most passionate about?

Literally none.

17. Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

I remembering having a creamy mushroom soup at the top of a ski mountain in Colorado with my dad. You could take off your ski boots and they had furry slippers. The whole contrast from freezing and shitty boots to warm and comfy probably made the soup way better.

18. The last movie you saw in a theater?

Zoolander 2.

19. Who was your first celebrity crush?

Anna Chlumsky in My Girl and Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family.

20. What would you cook if Nic Cage was coming to your house for dinner?

I don’t cook, so I’d probably ask what he wanted, order in, and then pretend I had cooked it like in Mrs. Doubtfire.
