Hey! Lots of new shows in development, and based on the ones I’ve selected to include here, the answer to the headline question should be fairly obvious.
1. According to The Wrap, Fox has ordered — and I kid you not that this is the name of the show — Babes on a Bus, a dating show that features 10 women hopping on a bus and traveling the country to find “Mr. Right.” They’ll be taken to towns, wooed by suitors, eat a nice restaurants and, at the end of each week, the women will have to decide whether to hop back onto the bus or stick around and see their relationships through.
Jesus. It’s being adapted from a Norwegian show.
2. According to Deadline, ABC has ordered Weird Desk, a paranormal investigation series set to air next summer. “Based on the alleged real-life mysteries from this world and beyond, it centers on the workings of a clandestine organization rumored to be named Weird Desk. The show comes from Carl Binder (Stargate) and David Tithcer (The Librarian).
3. TNT is developing a new buddy-cop drama, Hit, according to Deadline. The series comes from Jamie Foxx and Numbers producer Robert Port. The show “centers on two former high school football teammates and best friends — one a QB, one a WR -– who years later are ‘drafted’ by the Miami P.D. and assigned to HIT (High Impact Team).” Again, not making this up.
4. Vulture is reporting that NBC is developing a remake of the 1960’s Raymond Burr hit, Ironside, about a detective by a gunshot who must find new ways to investigate murders. The detective, as in the original, will be a sarcastic, abrasive type.
5. Mike Judge’s new show, Silicon Valley, the pilot of which has been given a green light by HBO, is “set in the high tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success.” It is said to be a single-camera dark comedy, and Mike Judge (Beavis & Butthead, Office Space, Idiocracy) will direct the pilot, set to shoot in the Spring.
That’s obviously my pick for the show to watch, mostly because of Mike Judge, but also because after law school, I helped to build a multimillion dollar Internet company during the dot com boom and ran it into the ground two years later because we had no idea what we were doing. I wish I could say I learned from the mistake, but I still have no idea what I’m doing.
