MTV Launching Another Awards Show

MTV has announced that it will air a new awards show called the O Music Awards, which will take place on April 28th. They’re not saying what the O stands for, but it’s pretty obvious after reading the description that it’s for “online.”

[The show’s] purpose is to “honor the migration of music to the digital space, and celebrate the art, artistry, and technology of digital music” through an nontraditional awards show that will be heavily interactive, incorporating television, social media, and mobile technology. The network will soon announce a hub for the show, as well as what its categories will be; Billboard speculates that they may include “things like best app and best Kanye West tweet.” [EW]

Can they really call it the OMAs? Didn’t Oprah trademark the use of the letter O by itself? Now see, THAT’S an awards show I can envision: Oprah starting up the O Awards and airing it on OWN. And just like she’s on every cover of O Magazine, so too would she win every O Award. Best Oprah in an Oprah show? That’s totally going to Oprah, dude.
