This ‘Smart Rating’ System Helpfully Ranks Netflix’s Original Shows

Television used to be so easy. There were a handful of fluff shows you’d watch every week at the same time, and hey, if you missed an episode, you could always see what shenanigans Urkel got up to next Friday. No biggie. Now, there are more than 1,400 shows on traditional TV, with dozens more through streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime.

It’s enough to overwhelm even the biggest Family Matters fan.

We’re here to help, for Netflix, at least. You can check out our list of The 50 Best TV Shows On Netflix, Ranked. Or if you want something more scientific, there’s PrettyFamous’ Smart Rating, a “comprehensive score that takes into account IMDb rating, IMDb votes (each show has at least 500), Emmy Awards, Rotten Tomatoes, and Metacritic Ratings.” It’s a helpful tool for deciding which of Netflix’s original series can be considered the “best.” (The correct answer is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but Smart Rating disagrees.)

Here’s the top 20, in ascending order.

#20. Hemlock Grove (70.74)
#19. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp (72.12)
#18. W/ Bob and David (73.79)
#17. Club de Cuervos (84.01)
#16. Grace and Frankie (84.08)
#15. F Is for Family (84.13)
#14. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (84.15)
#13. Lilyhammer (84.18)
#12. Marco Polo (84.29)
#11. Bloodline (84.35)
#10. BoJack Horseman (84.36)
#9. Master of None (84.45)
#8. Chef’s Table (84.57)
#7. Sense8 (84.84)
#6. Marvel’s Jessica Jones (84.96)
#5. Making a Murderer (85.19)
#4. Narcos (85.50)
#3. Marvel’s Daredevil (86.22)
#2. Orange Is the New Black (86.39)
#1. House of Cards (87.93)

Some critics would consider all those 84s a problem with the #TooMuchTV-era. There are a lot of good shows, but few great ones. I disagree, because that argument assumes BoJack Horseman isn’t a great show.

To them, I say:

If Fuller House ranks higher than Master of None, we riot.
