The Writers Of ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ Are Working On A NickToons Movie

Back in September, we told you that Nickelodeon and Paramount were teaming up for a “massive live-action/animated crossover film featuring… Rugrats, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold!, Rocko’s Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, and more.” Think Marvel’s The Avengers, but with more doggy style jokes.

The childhood-defining news was a natural evolution from Splat!, a nightly programming block on TeenNick that airs classic NickToons, and also Rocket Power (no amount of nostalgia can convince me Rocket Power was good).

Deadline reported today that the film has found its writers, husband-and-wife team Jared and Jarusha Hess, who also co-wrote Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre, and Gentlemen Broncos. The feature will be simply called NickToons, and is described as “Paramount’s answer to Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”

Jessica CatDog is going to be a big hit.

The pic is based on an idea by Ali Mendes [who] grew up loving the characters and hatched the idea to bring them together… [The] vast Nick character library from the past 25 years can be exploited to frame an original story the studio hopes will spark a franchise. (Via)

This will be the important movie ever to everyone between the ages of 25 and 35, at least until the documentary about Tamagotchis is released.
