If you thought Kit Harrington had a bad time keeping Jon Snow’s fate a secret between season five and six of Game of Thrones, imagine how bad the cast of The Walking Dead is getting it after executing one of the most ballsy (and frustrating) cliffhangers in the history of television. Season six of the show ended with half the show’s important characters lined up in front of comic bad guy extraordinaire Negan, who bashed in an unknown member’s brains in the final moments of the episode.
Since then, there have been endless attempts to decode who died in the finale. But considering AMC went so far as to threaten to sue spoiler websites into oblivion if they leaked the identity of the victim(s?), we don’t think there were enough hints to let anyone figure it out. There may even be a fair amount of disinformation purposefully sprinkled into the footage slowly coming out as we approach the October 23rd return of the show.
That information seems to point to Daryl ending up on the wrong end of Negan’s baseball bat Lucille. And during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Daryl himself, actor Norman Reedus, also seemed to feed into the speculation that he’d die, saying “I imagine a lot of people will be kicking their television sets.”
Internet fans who were already nervous about Daryl’s fate are now in full blown panic mode, because Reedus may have been referring to the famous ‘If Daryl Dies We Riot’ meme. As for why he doesn’t seem all that broken up about his potential death … hey, Norman is gonna be fine either way. The guy’s making over half a million bucks at every big Comic Con he attends, so don’t feel too bad for him.
Besides, if Daryl dies we get to spend more quality time with characters like Sasha and Gabriel! Ugh. Okay, now I get it. Please let this all be a fake out. The show’s going to lose a lot of appeal without Daryl Dixon on camera kicking ass and Norman Reedus behind the scenes pranking the crap out of his cast mates.
