TBS Is Developing A Comedy Based On The Notorious B.I.G.’s Lyrics

Once dominated by Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory, and Friends reruns, TBS has greatly improved its original programming in recent years. The unfairly ignored American Dad! hopped over from Fox in 2014; then earlier this year, Angie Tribeca, Wrecked, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee premiered. That’s a solid lineup, and now TBS is getting into the B.I.G. business.

Variety reports that “TBS is developing a scripted series based on the lyrics of Notorious B.I.G.” Created by Mass Appeal in partnership with Voletta Wallace (Biggie’s mother), Think B.I.G. will “chronicle the misadventures of an inner-city teen desperately trying to create a better future for his daughter and infant son.” “Misadventures” is a curious word choice for a comedy inspired by a legend who was murdered when he was 24 years old.

“The new direction that the good folks at TBS are taking is inspiring and totally akin to our position on popular culture,” said Sacha Jenkins, Mass Appeal partner and CCO. “In essence, Mass Appeal’s strength lies in our ability to articulate the innermost feelings of artists and revolutionaries who are in the throes of their most potent creative moments, in a manner that is true to the creators and the movements they help spawn. I think our marriage will produce programming that will inspire a huge cross-section of people to tune in, interact and, in the case of TBS, laugh their asses off.” (Via)

In the pilot episode, “Me and My Bitch,” we’ll be introduced to the lead character — let’s call him Christopher — and his, well, y’know. In the season one finale, Christopher’s father, affectionally known as Big Poppa, will buy a jacuzzi. In the series finale, Christopher will become best friends with his neighbor, Tupac, and they’ll move in together. Just like on Ready to Die.

Oh, right… Stay tuned for The Big Bang Theory. Very funny.
