An Unlikely One Direction Reunion Is Happening On ‘Family Guy’

It’s been a rough few months since One Directioners Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson announced they’d be taking an “extended hiatus” to do “loads of things” back in August. What were the loads of things they’d be doing, we wondered? Was that dramatic X Factor concert a thing contributing to said load? What about Harry Styles yacht-ing about with Kendall Jenner? Was that a thing? As it turns out, at least one of the things the ertswhile boy-banders wanted to do was appear on a long-running American cartoon for adults: Entertainment Weekly reports that the foursome will appear, in animated form, on an upcoming episode of Family Guy.

The episode in question will only feature lines of dialogue from Payne and Tomlinson, because can you honestly imagine Harry Styles deigning to be mocked by an American cartoon? Can you imagine Niall Horan taking a break from running breathless through the green fields of Mullingar, pink-cheeked and fancy free, to fly over to America to get on the mic for Seth MacFarlane? As such, these two will only be present in faux-corporeal form.

The episode, according to EW, will center on Chris as he runs for homecoming king. One Direction will appear in a campfire scene with Stewie, who tells them a “scary story involving non-skinny jeans.” Again: Do you see why Harry stayed away? The mere concept of this frightening tale would challenge the very fashion trend that shot our young Styles straight to the top. To ask Harry to lightly mock skinny jeans would be like asking Taylor Swift to hurl a kitten from a window.

One Direction founder Simon Cowell will be in the scene as well, although “it has yet to be determined whether Cowell himself or someone else will voice the role.” Considering the fact that 1D has recently looked the gift horse that is Simon Cowell straight in the mouth, I’m going to assume it will be the latter.

The episode, called “Run, Chris, Run” will air in May.
