Peter MacNicol Won’t Be Returning To ‘CSI: Cyber’ Next Season

When CSI: Cyber returns to CBS for its second season, Peter MacNicol will not return to reprise the role of Simon Sifter. The Wrap is reporting that CBS will be retooling the CSI spinoff and Ted Danson will join the cast as a series regular:

Danson won’t be replacing MacNicol however, as an individual with knowledge of the situation told The Wrap that the forces behind the show felt like Arquette’s character no longer needed an authority figure.

This announcement comes right after CBS announced their decision to end CSI with a two-hour TV movie. Ted Danson joined the cast of the network’s long running series back in its 12th season, replacing Laurence Fishburne, who moved on to appear in TV projects Hannibal and Black-ish.

There’s no word yet on the role Danson will be filling on CSI:Cyber. Season one of the series, which also stars James Van Der Beek, just aired its finale on Wednesday, marking MacNicol’s final appearance on the show.
