Right On Cue, Here Comes Sarah Palin To Defend The Duck Dynasty Dude’s ‘Free Speech’ Rights

Late last night, not long after A&E announced it was suspending Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson for questioning why a gay man could possibly choose another man’s butthole over a lady’s vagina, among other things, noted constitutional scholar Sarah Palin posted a note to Facebook blasting the move as an affront to Americans’ right to free speech.

Writes the woman who was almost a heartbeat away from the presidency…

Free speech is an endangered species. Those “intolerants” hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.

Ugh, do we really have to go through this again? Has no one yet explained to Trixie Klondike that instances like this and Paula Deen getting sh*t-canned by Food Network are not violations of free speech, but rather the free market she and her ilk so claim to love playing itself out. If Obama had thrown Phil Robertson in jail yesterday for being a bigoted as$hole, that would have been a violation of his right to free speech. But a private enterprise in business to make money firing him for saying ass-backwards things because it hampers their brand is NOT A VIOLATION OF FREE SPEECH. Read the First Amendment, for the love of God!

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Where in there does it say you can’t be suspended from a TV show if you foolishly spout ignorance to reporters? Jesus, stupid people are so exhausting.

Speaking of exhausting stupid people, go read the comments on Palin’s Facebook post if you really want to fear for America’s future. It’s a goddamn avalanche of stupid. Here’s a sampling of some of the recent ones, as of this writing…

A& E has proven that liberalism is not only an ideology of hate and rage, it is also an ideology of intolerance and tyrannical oppression, and it appears to have awakened a sleeping conservative giant.

I’m sorry, but this has EVERYTHING to do with free speech. We are no longer permitted to express our personal opinions unless said opinions happen to agree with the liberal left. Have we become such a “police state” that we can no longer even converse??????

It’s not about if the show is “stupid” or not, it’s about having freedom of speech or not. The man has a right to his opinion. I happen to agree with him; but if I didn’t that should be my right too! And wether any one likes it or not, it IS in the bible that the things he mentioned are sins. I’m sure no one would argue with someone who dissagreed with him for the very same reason; freedon of speech.

What’s wrong with this pucture !!! He is allowed to have and SPEAK his opinion regardless of weather ANYONE likes it or not!!! Those with a different opinion certainly SPEAK their opinions LOUD AND CLEAR and we HAVE TO LISTEN TO THEM ..BY LAW !!!! What is this world coming to ? Stop already ! This is becoming so ridiculous !!!!

I totally disagree with his statements but I’m disappointed A & E what happen to freedom of speech? We are all entitled to our own opinions. Americans fought for our freedom of speech.

What Phil said about the homos was just a quote from the Bible. God said it first, Phil just repeated it. So I would say that they are mad at God and taking it out on Phil. Woe unto to those that call evil good and good evil.

WELL FREEDOM OF SO EECH IS SUPPOSE TO BE JUST THAT FREE. AND IF YOU READ YOUR OR A BIBLE YOU REALIZE GOD DOES LOVE ALL HIS CHILDREN, ITS THE SIN HE HATES.

So sad.. This country is such a mess.. I think there’s no hope..Christians have no rights anymore..

And on and on it goes. Where were all these defenders of liberty when MSNBC forced Martin Bashir to resign for saying that someone should take a sh* down Sarah Palin’s throat?

UPDATE: Add Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal to the list of those holding the misguided notion that Phil Robertson’s suspension is a 1st Amendment violation.

“Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with. I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended “
