What Does Ronda Rousey’s New Movie Deal With Lifetime Mean For Her UFC Career?

For a competitor who only recently picked up the first L of her career, Ronda Rousey continues to rake in offers like a champ. The former UFC women’s bantamweight titleholder will now be expanding her outside-the-Octagon empire to include the world of cable TV movies.

Deadline reports that Rousey has inked a deal with Lifetime that will see a trio of projects make their way onto the UnReal-housing network. What can you expect from these Rousey-shepherded projects? According to Deadline, the deal was signed “to bring stories that reflect (Rousey’s) passions about empowerment to the screen.” This partnership was announced as part of the network’s 2016-17 development slate, so wheels are in motion. Exciting news for Rousey, potentially troubling news for Dana White.

A return date for Rousey in a UFC fight hasn’t been sorted out as of yet. The reemergence of the MMA dynamo could be a possibility for the company’s Madison Square Garden card. It may also be at the mercy of Rousey’s assorted other projects or simply how Rousey is feeling about when she’ll be fighting in the future. Miesha Tate nabbing the division’s title from Holly Holm has added some interesting questions about where things could go next and there’s always the neverending “Rousey vs. Cyborg” nudges that will continue until the end of time.

We’ll have to wait and see if the Lifetime offerings churned out by Rousey are as compelling as the drama attached to her (eventual) return.
