Jamie Lee Curtis Recreated This Iconic Scene From ‘Psycho’ For Ryan Murphy’s ‘Scream Queens’

When Ryan Murphy announced he was creating a whole new genre with his upcoming horror/comedy series Scream Queens, many fans of both horror and comedy raised a collective eyebrow in judgement. However, when genre fave Jamie Lee Curtis agreed to join the cast of the series, the collective eyebrow raise was joined with a nod of approval. Curtis first gained fame with her performance as “Final Girl” Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s Halloween and its 1981 sequel.

She returned to the movie franchise to reprise her role, not once or twice, but three times (but let’s forget about Halloween: Resurrection, shall we?). In 1998’s Halloween H20, the actress returned to put an end, once and for all, to her brother Michael’s murderous misgivings. It wasn’t the best of the franchise, to be sure, but not only did it launch the career of a be-cowlicked Josh Hartnett, it also allowed Curtis to share some precious screen time with her mother, Janet Leigh.

In 1960, Leigh made cinematic history by taking a simple shower in Alfred Hitchcock’s masterful flick Psycho. And though she didn’t have a large amount of screen time there, she cemented her status as one of cinema’s most iconic scream queens. So when she appeared in Steve Miner’s Halloween sequel, it served as a cheeky nod to Hitchcock. Leigh played the small role of Norma in the film and the car — down to the make, model, color, and license plate — was an exact replica to the second vehicle her character Marion purchases in Psycho.

Keeping up with the referential nature of that scene, Jamie Lee Curtis shared the above image on Twitter earlier on Tuesday. Ryan Murphy has been known to give nods to genre classics throughout episodes of American Horror Story and now it looks like one of the slasher genre’s original “Final Girls” has re-enacted her mother’s infamous shower scene for an upcoming “special” episode of Scream Queens. How special will that episode be? We won’t have too much longer to find out as the show will premiere next Tuesday night on Fox.
