The ‘X-Files’ Revival May Confirm One Of The Show’s Most Popular Theories

Is the truth out there? Who cares. That’s such a 1995 thing to ask. The question The X-Files fans want the answer to now: Is Dana Scully immortal?

Chris Carter’s supernatural series returns for six brand new episodes on January 24, providing enough new erotic fan fiction to power the Internet for at least five more years. We know there will be conspiracy theories, obviously, as well as “standalone creature features.” But in an interview with the Huffington Post, Carter teases that we may learn more about Scully’s history, specifically if she’s a Highlander or not.

We asked Carter for his take. The X-Files creator said, “It’s certainly been suggested, but I can tell you this: Stay tuned for Episode 6.” (Via)

There have been numerous references to Scully’s potential immortality throughout the series. For instance, in the classic episode “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose,” she’s told “you don’t” when she asks how she’s going to die. Later, in the most Twilight Zone-meets-Groundhog Day of episodes, “Monday,” Mulder and Scully are stuck in a time loop… which she caused. “She was not supposed to die,” a fan explained, “so time reset until she survived.”

I like this theory, because I want to live in a world where Gillian Anderson never dies.
