Jon Bernthal recently told CBS News that he’s “extremely honored and grateful” to have been cast as Frank Castle for the second season of the hit Netflix series Daredevil. Like most actors being cast in the Marvel Universe or DC films, he’s well aware of how crazy fans can be over their favorite comic book heroes and villains, so he’s promising us that when it comes time for him to suit up and wear that classic skull uniform, he’s going to give it his all. That’s good news for fans who felt let down by Thomas Jane or Ray Stevenson in their portrayals of Marvel’s moody badass, but we’ve still been wondering what the Punisher’s role will be in Matt Murdock’s neighborhood.

According to an exclusive from Nerdist, the popular belief that Daredevil and Punisher will be facing off has been confirmed, as one of the showrunners is calling the second season “Daredevil vs. The Punisher.”

According to our source, newly appointed co-showrunner Marco Ramirez is referring to season two as “Daredevil vs. the Punisher.” We’ll now take a brief hiatus while you high five everyone in the room. All done? Good! Now obviously we knew that Daredevil and the Punisher would wind up at each other’s throats, but this news makes it seem like the Punisher could be the big bad for the entire second season. Or will he?

Now, without spoiling the first season of Daredevil for fools who have yet to watch it, some people thought that Season 1 was pretty over-the-top in terms of violence and bloodshed. For example, that broken up fight sequence in “Speak of the Devil,” which had me turning to my dog and saying, “Yo, can you believe this?” at least five times. But now we’re going to watch Daredevil take on the Punisher, presumably over their philosophies regarding how bad guys should be handled?

We should probably invest in Gallagher tarps, because Season 2 is gonna be bloody as all hell.
