Seth Meyers Unleashes Some Hard Truth On Debbie Wasserman Schultz At The DNC

Seth Meyers has really put some quality work into his Closer Look segments on Late Night, highlighting the big stories of the campaign season with the type of sharp humor that helped him make the jump from Weekend Update to the late-night realm. He manages to walk the tight rope between just doing comedy to actually saying things about current events, which is refreshing stuff.

Monday’s was an especially fine one, tackling the DNC email leaks and how it was affecting the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Once the emails hit the public space, it was pretty clear that the rumors and conspiracy theories surrounding the DNC’s view on Bernie Sanders were a bit more than rumors. When Debbie Wasserman Schultz decided to step down at the end of the convention, it was applauded as a big step and a quick fix for the scandal. Then she decided to speak at the convention anyway, followed by a statement that she’d be joining the Clinton campaign.

Meyers sums this up by comparing it to a reply-all email deriding the presence of Fat Kevin at a birthday party and then showing up at the party anyway when everybody is pretty pissed at you — not to mention the Clinton statement becoming the icing on the cake that Fat Kevin is apparently going to eat by himself.

Meyers notes that despite it all, Bernie Sanders still went out to support Clinton as the nominee — though in the speech earlier in the day and not in time for Sanders’ DNC speech. He does put some nonsensical words in Donald Trump’s mouth at the end, but that can pass.
