‘Sharknado 4’ Has An Official Poster And ‘Star Wars’-Inspired Title

Here at Uproxx, we just can’t resist a good shark-filled tornado. The folks at The Asylum have kept audiences well supplied with shark tornado-based entertainment in recent years, having pumped out three of their Z-grade Sharknado TV-movies since 2013. Mimicking the pornography industry’s ruthlessly efficient business model — churn out content for dirt-cheap and watch the money roll in — they’ve carved themselves out a nice little niche on SyFy’s programming lineup. As long as the viewers keep tuning in, ironically or not, Asylum will continue combining sharks with tornadoes.

The fourth installment in the epic Sharknado saga comes Sunday, July 31, at 8 p.m., but hardcore devotees can slake their thirst for a preview with the reveal of an official poster and title for the upcoming movie. In a bid to siphon a bit of Star Wars‘ popularity, the Asylum has selected the title Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, which is a joke in that it is the fourth film in the franchise, but also sounds like The Force Awakens. Do you get it? Good, then you’re ready for the heady intellectual highs that undoubtedly await the viewers in the rest of the fourth Sharknado.

At present, it’s not clear how seriously to take this title. Is it to imply that Sharknado will make the jump to space, finally giving America the opus of space-shark-tornadoes that we’ve longed for all these years.. wait, that already happened!

No plot details have been revealed as of yet, but with Gary Busey on board, it’s bound to be pretty bizarre, space or no.
