‘Sherlock’ Goes Full Victorian Horror In This Creepy New Teaser Trailer For The Christmas Special

Sherlock fans have been waiting not-so-patiently for the new Christmas special, but at least the BBC has been generous with their teaser footage, releasing yet another look at “The Abominable Bride.” This time, the focus is on the gothic horror feel of the Victorian tale, complete with creepy bride, a la Miss Havisham if Great Expectations were a horror novel. Whether or not the more supernatural elements will be explained away by science like “The Hounds of Baskerville” is still unknown, but either way, fans are hopefully in for a truly thrilling episode.

The special will be released on New Year’s Day, and will give fans even more reason to look ahead to season four. According to co-creator Mark Gatiss, who has already written the first episode, it will be a game-changing season for the beloved characters. He reports to Entertainment Weekly:

“Well, it’s some more adventures. Ha ha!” chuckles the writer. “All I can say is, this is a major, life-changing series for the regulars. The repercussions of Moriarty’s apparent return are far-reaching. It’s very big stuff.”

While it seems a little far fetched for Andrew Scott’s Moriarty to return (he did, after all, shoot himself in the head), it will be exciting to see Sherlock go head to head with the terrific villain once again. We’ll just have to wait and see. And after nearly two-year gaps between seasons, waiting is something this fandom has gotten used to.
