Will Ferrell’s Classic ‘Weekend Update’ Character Jacob Silj Returns To ‘SNL’

The time has once again come for people with “Voice Immodulation Syndrome” to stay silent no longer!

Will Ferrell brought his classic Weekend Update correspondent character Jacob Silj back to SNL last night. For those unfamilar, Silj is a man incapable of modulating the tone of his voice and it makes his life very difficult. It also makes life difficult for Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost. Whenever Jost asks Silj to quiet his voice, he gets a lot of sass directed at him in one unchanging tone.

“Unbelievable,” fumes Silj in a loud monotone. “I happen to suffer from voice immodulation syndrome … it has been diagnosed in over zero people in the United States alone.”

Silj’s vocal problems make it impossible for the correspondent not to hurt Jost’s feelings with the things he says under his breath.

“Geez Jost, did that wig come with the suit?” loudly mutters Silj. “Good to know you had five dollars.”

As he walks Jost through the pain of his very unusual disorder, we’re once again reminded of why we missed this guy even if he’s a bit of a jerk.

Speaking of missing characters, Will Ferrell’s return to Saturday Night Live was a major ratings hit. Last night’s episode earned the highest ratings of the season, according to Variety.
