Stephen Colbert’s Late Show debut is still two months away, but there’s lots to get done between now and then. In addition to figuring out how to replace an icon, and introduce the world to the real Stephen Colbert, and how to, uh, do the show, they also have to do physical alterations to the Ed Sullivan Theater to make the set their own. (I use the word “they” loosely here. I assume Colbert is not painting the walls himself. The union would have his hide.) (Also, the thing about him being busy creating a show.)
The collateral damage in the renovations process is that the surrounding businesses have to deal with scaffolding and construction crews, and all of it might dissuade potential customers from coming in.
