Sept. 8 will be here before we know it, but The Late Show With Stephen Colbert can’t come to CBS soon enough. Fortunately, Stephen Colbert is gracing us with his presence in various media like Glamour, GQ, Howard Stern, and now TIME magazine. Colbert unleashed a preview of the cover through his personal Twitter account this afternoon:

With the claim that this is Colbert “as you’ve never seen him,” TIME is sure getting our hopes up. How have we never seen Stephen Colbert? We’ve seen him as a Tolkien character, we’ve seen him talk to a dragon, we’ve seen him with a shaved head, we’ve seen him as animatedly, ambiguously gay. And while it looks like he’s playing the “serious” thing up here, he includes the hashtag #ISwearItsAComedyShow. There has even been some indication that his hosting style will be very similar to how he hosted in character for The Colbert Report.

So, how have we never seen Stephen Colbert?

1. Blond. Nor blonde, which would mean that we have never seen Colbert blonde and also in drag.

2. Tattooed. I don’t think we’ve ever seen him tattooed, whether he has secret real tattoos or secret fake tattoos.

3. Riding a unicycle. Come on, Colbert. We’re expecting your A-game.

4. Communicating with the dead, though I could be wrong about this.

I guess the only logical conclusion is that for this TIME story, Colbert participated in a photo spread as a tattooed, blonde drag queen riding a unicycle while leading a seance. That’s one way to resurrect print media!
