Don’t Expect A Rehash Of Season One Says ‘Stranger Things’ Exec Producer

Following up on an impressive first offering is never easy to do, be it in film, television, music or even literature. When it comes to Netflix’s Stranger Things there are a ton of expectations heading into a second season. Can they possibly recreate that same magic that they did the first time around? We’ve already had a glimpse at a few new characters and we know that the kids are well-versed in ’80s films and trivia, but what will it actually be about?

Executive producer Dan Cohen spoke to Yahoo! about the second season and promised that they won’t simply be treading on the same turf this time around, so you don’t have to worry about this turning into strange cult flop Eerie, Indiana or anything.

“We’ll be doing more than just a rehash of Season 1. We’re coming back with a few new characters, expanding storylines and mythologies, so it’ll feel like the stakes are raised and more is going on and really delivering on the promise and pushing for more. We want a sequel that feels like it’s bigger and badder and darker, while answering more of the questions and getting deeper into what’s going on. [The Duffer Brothers] want it to be that great sequel that is satisfying and yet expands the world.”

He went on to list great sequels like Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Aliens and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as inspirations for a great second offering in a series, but claimed that they wouldn’t forget their roots when it comes to inspiration that helped to make the first season so special. It’ll be difficult to come up with new ideas for more insane things to happen to ole’ Hawkins, Indiana without it feeling like a strange vortex in the center of the weird universe and leave you wondering why these things only happen there, but they did open up a door to the Upside Down, so there is precedence, at least.

Making season two as incredible as the first will be tough, but with just how good the first season is it seems that the show is in capable hands.
