Tatiana Maslany Reveals How The Heck She Keeps Her ‘Orphan Black’ Clones Straight

As you’re surely aware by now, Tatiana Maslany was finally and very deservedly nominated for an Emmy for her work on Orphan Black, which was the topic of conversation when she stopped by The Tonight Show to chat with Jimmy Fallon on Monday night. Of course, the remarkable thing about Maslany’s acting is that, despite the fact that she plays so many characters on the series, she does it with such skill that you completely lose yourself in the fact that you’re watching one actress carry the bulk of the work because it feels so much like an ensemble. (I still can’t keep the boy clones straight to save my life, though.)

To that point, Fallon asked Maslany if she ever gets confused about which clone she’s portraying. She says she sees playing the different characters as “a thousand little movies,” but still relies mostly on hair and makeup to keep her in characters. She does concede, however, that there are times when certain “gestures will kind of bleed over,” but she tries to keep them as distinct as possible. If that’s true, I sure the hell have never noticed, anyway. The hardest goddamn working actress on television deserves to cut herself some slack!
