Let’s Talk Tuesday’s Geeky TV: ‘The Flash’ Brings In Michael Ironside

Supervillains rarely come from happy homes, but Captain Cold’s family appears to take the cake. Yep, we’re going to meet Cold’s dear old dad in tonight’s liveblog.

Once again, this show loves its casting gags, although this one is a bit more elaborate than most. Ironside’s coworker and fellow ’80s action movie villain Michael Champion was Captain Cold in 1990’s The Flash. Hey, guys, you still haven’t had Julio on yet. Give him some love. That arrives at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.

Meanwhile, at 9 p.m. EST on ABC, Agents of SHIELD fight a supervillain who may not be Blackout from the comics, but who sure looks and acts like him:

Yeah, yeah, Lash, whatever. He absorbs energy, he goes around without a shirt, just like Blackout… he’s Blackout. Just call him Blackout, guys, you own the rights to him and it’s obvious who he was supposed to be.

Anyway, while everyone else is dealing with Dollar Tree Blackout, May and Hunter continue the great search for Ward as they work their way up the ranks in HYDRA. Which raises the question of why Grant Ward, of all people, doesn’t have his team do proper background checks. If anybody knows how easy it is to infiltrate a large organization, it’s this guy. But, hey, we get garage fights out of the deal.

Sadly, I won’t be able to watch tonight, for reasons that must remain mysterious. But we’ve got a post here, so weigh in with your observations, and I’ll check in later on with my view of each episode. Join us, won’t you?
