To The Dismay Of Ron Swanson, ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ May Be Revived

Launching a new series is hard, y’all. Most new series fail, and even the ones that succeed — like Mad Men or Breaking Bad — often take years to build a sizable audience (and even then, it’s not that sizable). Even Game of Thrones started out with only so-so ratings, though it has built upon that to become one of the most popular series on television. Given that difficulty in jumpstarting a new series, we can probably expect that the networks — network and cable and Netflix — may end up relying on existing properties more and more frequently. Netflix brought back Arrested Development. Fox is bringing back 24. And you can expect more of this in the future.

One of those existing properties that may be brought back is Lucy Lawless’ Xena: Warrior Princess, at least according to a couple of tweets from Lawless herself (via I09):

What form might that be? I don’t know. I’ve never seen the original series, and it was not until recently that I even realized that a young, blonde and freakish Karl Urban was on the show. But I do know this: 1) Lucy Lawless plays a character on Parks and Recreation who is carrying Ron Swanson’s baby, and if this project takes her away from P&R and Swanson, I will be crushed on behalf of Swanson, and 2) Lucy Lawless, like Julia Louis Dreyfus, only gets hotter as she ages.

But then again, if they wanted to, say, hand the franchise over to Gina Carano, I would not object.
