Tracy Morgan’s recovery from a June 2014 car crash was not an easy one.

The 30 Rock star, who suffered a “debilitating brain injury” from the Walmart truck that collided into his vehicle, told GQ, “I wasn’t in a good place. I didn’t get into a good place until maybe ten months later.” Morgan seems to be in a good place now — he’s hosted SNL, channeled Mr. T for Jimmy Kimmel Live, and gone on tour. The accident still isn’t far from his mind, though, and he’s appreciative of everyone, particularly the doctors and nurses at New Jersey’s Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, who helped him get back to rubbing his exposed belly in public. So much so that over the weekend, he performed an “emotional” special show for the hospital’s medical staff.

“Last night was one of the most special nights of my life,” Morgan told People exclusively. “To be standing on stage with the people that saved my life in the audience was an overwhelming experience. I will never fully be able to thank the doctors, nurses, first responders, and everyone else that got me back on that stage enough.

“These people are heroes and I love them all from the bottom of my heart,” he continued. “The only good thing that happened on that horrible night was that I was close to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital when the accident happened. God Bless them all.” (Via)

The show was sold out, and afterward, “Tracy asked for the house lights to be turned on and requested all those who helped save his life to share his standing ovation with him.” Then he got everyone in attendance pregnant, especially the obstetricians.
