Trailer: ‘Too Big to Fail’ Looks Too Boring to Watch

Here’s a mini-trailer for HBO’s Too Big to Fail, a film about the 2008 financial crisis based on Andrew Ross Sorkin’s bestselling book. The cast is excellent — Paul Giamatti, Billy Crudup, Topher Grace, James Woods, William Hurt, Cynthia Nixon, Tony Shalhoub, Bill Pullman, Matthew Modine, and Ed Asner (as Warren Buffett!) — and this will almost certainly win every Emmy and Golden Globe a TV movie can win. But that doesn’t mean I can possibly stay awake watching it.

Of course, the fact that I find this boring is a fault with me, not the movie. None of the finance executives responsible for robbing us blind and sinking our economy are getting prosecuted, and I can’t force myself to be upset. It’s actually a front-page story in the New York Times today, but I haven’t read it because my eyes glaze over at the first hint of financial discussion. I need at least one of the three C’s* to be interested.
