The ‘Veep’ Season 5 Trailer Promises Major Presidential Problems For Selina Meyer

If you thought Grease Live! was all about the European country currently plagued by economic troubles and austerity measures, then you’ve got a friend in Veep‘s President Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Or at least that’s the suggestion made by Meyer’s right-hand man, Tom James (Hugh Laurie), when he suggests they put a plan into action to avoid becoming “the country, not the musical” in the first full trailer for the upcoming fifth season.

The first teaser for the Armando Iannucci-less season already promised fans and newcomers plenty of new, biting insults from the Emmy Award-winning HBO comedy series. Thanks to the new trailer, however, we now know just how biting those insults will be.

Not to mention the fact that the stakes are raised since Meyer’s potential presidency ended with a literal tie in the electoral college at the end of season four. Season five starts with that big political mess, then adds what sounds like a rather disheartening (and not musically oriented) financial crisis into the mix.

Never fear, for Mad Men‘s John Slattery offers viewers their first look at his yet-to-be-named Wall Street mogul character who serves as a romantic interest for Meyer. And by “romantic interest,” I mean someone who Meyer makes sure to tell she’s “not that kind of a president” after the pair bump uglies across the west wing.
