‘The Walking Dead’ Is Adding Some Sort Of Badass Grandma To The Crew For Season 7

In the world of The Walking Dead, there are only two certainties: people are going to die, and those dead people are going to come back to life. Rick’s group of survivors have seen a revolving door (heh, Noah) of characters passing through. Some last a few episodes, others a season or more. But with hordes of the undead everywhere and gangs like Negan’s Saviors roaming the land, longevity is not something that is in large supply.

So it should come as no surprise that season seven of The Walking Dead will add some fresh meat into the grinder. TV Line’s Michael Ausiello reports that we’re set to meet at least two new characters who aren’t pulled from the comics. There’s Naomi, “a grandmotherly type who, having lost so many loved ones, is now willing to do whatever it takes not to have to bury any more.” Balancing things out with some youth is Jennie, “a sunny-side-up kinda teenager, kind, with a world-weary toughness.”

TV Line describes Jennie as ‘Beth 2.0’, which may irk those who still feel Beth 1.0 was unnecessarily snuffed out simply to satisfy the mid-season finale ratings gods. Still, we do need a chipper yin to Enid’s downer yang, so I’ll take it. As for Naomi, I’m hoping she’s that combo of Granny sweet and Rambo destruction. The gang definitely needs some of that right now with Carol all full of doubts and bullet holes.

The Walking Dead returns on Sunday October 9. That certainly feels like a long ways off, doesn’t it? In the meantime, why not check out our extensive collection of Walking Dead memes?
