Watch ‘Girls’ Star Andrew Rannells Talk About The Complexity Of Filming A Handjob Scene

Allison Williams has gone into great detail about the technical wizardry and teamwork required to shoot the now iconic tush buffet scene from last week’s Girls‘ season premiere, but no one ever talks about the challenges of shooting a handjob scene. Now, however, Girls star Andrew Rannells is detailing the awkward dance that is required to pantomime hand-love with a complete stranger on camera.

As you can see in the above video of Rannells’ appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers last night, dealing with small talk, a hovering Lena Dunham, and getting over the shock of filming such a retro sex act rank high on the list of annoyances one must confront when filming this specific kind of scene.

The worst of it? Finding a way to toe the line between respecting another actor’s personal fun-zone boundaries and not looking as if you are waxing the pole of Thundar, the norse God of tri-pods.

Man, writing about television in the age of Who’s The Boss and Golden Girls must have been BORING. We truly are living in a magical age.
