Two Of The Badass Members Of Pussy Riot Brought Some Serious Badassery To The ‘Colbert Report’

Regular viewers of the Colbert Report know that Stephen has the ability to dominate an interview, or make guests uncomfortable if they don’t get his “schtick”, especially if there’s a translator trying to play go between on the jokes.

Well, last night Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alyokhina of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot were on the Colbert Report (full episode here) and KILLED IT. One thing is for sure, it’s a lot less awkward than their first post-prison interview.

As you hopefully are aware of, members of Pussy Riot were imprisoned for 2 years – and sent to freaking Siberian work camps – for, as they put it in the video below, “[singing] a fun song in a church“. Their imprisonment enraged Free Speech groups and acted as a shining example of how Russia is moving backwards under Putin’s presidency, and that’s not even factoring in the complete clusterf**k that is the Sochi Olympics.

Check out the clips below where they talk about their imprisonment, free speech in Russia, Putin (“a shirtless man on a horse”) and gay rights. They are amazing. The whole thing’s a treat.

I don’t know if it’s all Russians in general, or just these two women, but they are badasses.
