Weekend Preview: The Simpsons, College Football And New ‘Downton Abbey’

Downton Abbey (PBS, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — The upstairs-downstairs drama returns in the premiere of Downton Abbey‘s sixth and final season.

The Simpsons (FOX, Sunday 8:00 p.m.) — The Season 27 winter premiere features Stephen Merchant and Kaitlin Olson (Dee from It’s Always Sunny) making guest voice appearances in a episode that focuses on one of Marge’s social media posts that gets Homie in some hot water.

College Football (ESPN, Friday 8:30 p.m.) — Oklahoma State vs. Ole Miss in the All-State Sugar Bowl … and the real reason the playoff bowl games were held yesterday even though it was inconvenient for, like, everyone involved.

College Football (ESPN, Saturday 10:15 p.m.) — West Virginia vs. Arizona State in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. Here’s to hoping that Ken Griffey Jr.’s kid scores a bajillion touchdowns.

Sunday Night Football (NBC, Sunday 8:20 p.m.) — Packers vs. Vikings in what could be a preview of an eventual NFC playoff matchup.

Family Guy (FOX, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — Quagmire used to star in a Korean soap opera and — when the guys find the old VHS tapes — the gang travels back to his old stomping grounds to find the final episode. Also, Stewie’s worried he might be a ginger.

Bordertown (FOX, Sunday 9:30 p.m.) — Hank Azaria, Alex Borstein, Judah Friedlander, Nicholas Gonzalez and Missi Pyle lend their voices to a new animated series about two families living in a fictional town in the American Southwest along the U.S.-Mexico border.
