The 70th Annual Golden Globes Awards (NBC, Sunday 8 p.m.) — Generally, the Golden Globes are the best awards show of the season, mostly because no one cares about the awards and everyone is drunk. The fact that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler — who have a tendency to steal awards shows as presenters — are hosting only makes it better. Fringe (Fox, Friday 9 p.m.) — This final season of Fringe has been beating around the goddamn bush all season, so hopefully with the last episode before two-hour finale, SOMETHING monumental will … wait, what? There’s a new Phineas and Ferb on tonight? OK. Well, Fringe will have to wait.
Banshee (Cinemax, Friday 10 p.m.) — I reviewed Banshee earlier today, but in case you need a refresher: Pros: Sex, violence, a great premise, and strong writing. Cons: Spotty acting, spotty directing, and not-so-great production values. Verdict: Give it a shot.
AFC Divisional Match-Up: Baltimore Ravens vs. Denver Bronos (Saturday, 4:30) — It’s another huge weekend for football, but what I’m hoping to see the most is for Peyton Manning to crush the Ravens, walk out into the middle of the field with 30 seconds left, do the Ray Lewis dance, drop a mic and walk off the field. It would be the greatest moment is sports history, for about 20 seconds, then Ray Lewis would literally eat him alive.
Shameless (Showtime, Sunday 9 p.m.) — I’m so displeased that Showtime, and every other network, is airing first-runs against the Golden Globes, especially a series premiere. You can’t wait one damn week? Also, I love this show.
Happy Endings/Don’t Trust the B— in Apt. 23 (ABC, Sunday 10 p.m.) — Hardly anyone turned out last week for Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B—, and going up against the Golden Globes, I expect the numbers to be even worse. It’s almost as if ABC doesn’t WANT these sitcoms to succeed. Basterds.
Girls (HBO, Sunday 9 p.m.) — Put all your judgements aside, and remember this: Donald Glover is on, and he has a fantastic arc as a black Republican.
